A study by the WHO claims that working long hours harms one’s health. In 2016, around 745000 deaths were attributed to working too much. The organization analyzed and reviewed studies that were related to the issue. Participants were drawn from various socioeconomic backgrounds. The studies analyzed and reviewed over 20 studies on stroke and two on ischemic heart disease. They discovered that working long hours was associated with an increased risk of both conditions.

The researchers concluded that men are more prone to suffering from work-related diseases. Working over 55 hours a week is associated with a 35% increased risk of stroke and a 17% higher chance of cardiovascular diseases. They also acknowledged that working at various socioeconomic levels can make it hard for some people to maintain a consistent work schedule.

Other ailments, such as cerebrovascular and respiratory ailments, have also been studied. Although the results of the studies suggest a link between working long hours and various health conditions, they aren’t as strong as those related to cardiovascular disease.
