People who have had to function on too little sleep know how difficult it can be to get through the next day. It is important to make sure that you get enough sleep every night so that you are rested, happy, and more. Take a look at some of the detriments of being sleep deprived.

Your Immune System Will Suffer

Your body repairs itself at night while you are sleeping, and missing out on sleep can weaken it. Your body will no longer be able to fight against viruses and infections. When this happens, you are likely to get sick more frequently. If you sleep less than five hours a night, you can see an increase in your blood pressure as well. You will also have an increased risk for Type 2 Diabetes.

You Will Suffer From Physical Issues

There are several physical changes that you can go through when you don’t get enough sleep. You might gain weight because you will feel hungry when your body doesn’t need food. It can also affect your balance and coordination, so you might fall more easily and be involved in accidents. In addition, it can lower your sex drive.

Your Emotions Can Get Out of Balance

When you don’t get enough sleep, you can get moody. You might find you have a quick temper, and you can feel sad or depressed. If you are deprived of sleep for too long, you can find that it leads to anxiety and depression. You might also have trouble thinking and concentrating. These are all consequences that come with sleep deprivation.

What Causes Sleep Deprivation?

Sleep deprivation is caused by constant lack of sleep. This might be from not sleeping enough hours each night, or it could be caused by getting poor sleep every night. Your body needs sleep as much as it needs food and air, and it is important to pay attention to this. If you have trouble sleeping at night, you need to evaluate why and make the changes necessary.
